in the sony site they say this...

Copyright-protected Blu-ray video discs can only be output at 1080p using an HDMI cable connected to a device that is compatible with the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard.

i dont have a hi-fi lcd tv .. i own an lg 29" tv with component in at 480i... does this mean that i wont be able to view blu ray movies?? does the ps3 have an option to downconvert the 1080p info to 480i to be compatible with my tv... i intend to use an hdmi to component cable to connect to my tv... and also what will i be looking at if i put in a 1080p output on my tv....?? my primary intention is to watch blu-ray movies at the best quality that i can possibly have with my tv.... does this all apply for games as well?? my guess is that games wont be a problem but movies might be...?? please clarify....

Because your TV is standard definition (480i), it won't have an HDMI input to connect. As such the HDMI issue is a moot one for you.

Yes, the PS3 can "downconvert" Blu-Ray movies to 480i. The real question is...Why would you pay $25-30 for a Blu Ray movie that will look EXACTLY the same as a DVD of the same movie that costs $10-20?
