Hi Craig,

First check your Bluray player manual. Ours has a setting to enter in the type of TV you have. When we first got our wide screen TV I had to change the player setup from 4/3 to wide screen to get rid of the bars.

Also look on your TV remote for a "zoom" or a "wide" button. You may be able to adjust your display.

Even though we have a new 1080P Sharp HDTV, the blueray playback on the PS3 puts bars at the top/bottom of the screen. I could not find an option to change this. Any solutions?

Keep in mind that films are in many other ratios than just 16:9 which is what causes the horizontal bars. The only way to eliminate them is to use the "stretch" option on your TV, but then the people look short and squatty and you're not watching the film as the director intended it to be watched.
