PS3 froze up while saving on GTA4???

What should I do? Is this common for this game?
Should I turn off my PS3 with the switch on the back, or can I turn it off with the button on the front??

I saw on G4 Tv that u'r supposed to turn it off with the button on the front, then erase u'r game, and start over and it should be okay. I haven't actually tried it though becuz I've yet to obtain the cash for the game, so! get some other suggestions before you try mine.
