puppy scared of being picked up?

my maltese puppy is 8 weeks old and he's happy and playful but i've noticed that when i go to pick him up sometimes he crouches down like he's scared. he is very outgoing and playful usually so i'm wondering if it's because he's sore or scared or just doesnt like it! once he's being held he's very happy and snuggles in so i'm not sure what's going on.
 
You are scaring him. To him you are huge and tower over him. Try sitting in the floor or kneeling down before you pick him up
You would crouch, if the Jolly green giant swooped down on you<g>
 
Well its completely normal! The little pup just doesn't know what you are gonna do yet. Don't think much of it it is normal.

He may just be scared because he doesnt know what you are going to do to him but once he is in your arms he relizes that nothing bad will happen and he is happy agian.... dont worry it is normal!
