I just purchased a $300 jacket from a store called Queenspark in Chatswood. The goods were defective (unsewn pockets, stains and the jacket smelt) and the store manager refused me a refund or exchange saying I "must have damaged them myself" even though I had only had the jacket for about half an hour before I realised that it was broken.

I have never encountered someone so rude and unhelpful and need to know how to take the matter further, anybody dealt with this sort of stuff??

Was it just the manager or the actual store owner you talked to? If it's the former, 1st thing you need to do is get in touch with the owner. Then if they don't want to give you a refund and if you paid by credit card or check, you can call the number and say you want to stop the payment b/c you want a refund. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure you will have to sue them for the money in small claims court. Take pictures of the damage immediately and keep the receipt for evidence. Personally, I'd call one of those judge shows and embarrass the store on national TV for fucking with me, but that's just me.
