i want to enlist in the military originally i was going to go into the marines but after a heated argument with my parents they have said if i want their consent i will chose some thing else. like the coast guard or navy and they said i could go from coast guard to navy if i wanted to continue on after a tour of service in the coast guard and initially i was thinking that it sounded horrible then i thought navy = navy seals after some extensive training but i have no idea how long a tour of duty lasts for either the coast guard or the navy, and i figure if i want to be a seal i should at least have some prior training in the military but if two tours of duty puts me at an age where i wouldn't be accepted into the navy seals it would be useless to me.
so big question is what are the average tours of duty for the coast guard and navy ? also what is the regular tour of duty for a navy seal ?
i have read several things saying that a tour can be up to eight years with the coast guard and about the same for the navy im 18 right now so at a max of eight each putting it at 16 years after two tours i would be 34 and i am almost certain that you cant be a navy seal at the age of 34 or at the least if i could i wouldn't be in my prime then.
