Question about 'popping' men's balls?

Men being kicked or kneed in the balls by women is a common theme for questions on this site. One thing which people sometimes talk about is mens' balls being 'popped' by this occuring. Can someone tell me a) what exactly this means, b) what effect this would have on a man, and c) is this a likely result of a man being assaulted in this way by a woman ?
