Question about sport bikes?

I know alot about cars and mechanics but nothing about sportbikes and I want to get on one. So what are some models to look at used for under $4000?
 
First off, you'll get better answers in the actual motorcycle section (this is bicycling,) or check a site like m13online.com.

Quite a few 600cc sport bikes can be found used for $4000, just depends how old you are willing to go. I recommend the Suzuki GSX-R 600, although the Yamaha R6, Kawasaki ZX-6R, and Honda CBR 600 have plenty of fans.

I'll also say, starting out on a smaller bike is usually a good idea, even if you know cars. The driving is completely different. Plus, getting a bike like the Suzuki SV650 will save quite a bit of money, while still being faster than you need on the street.
