So, I'm getting a German Shepherd dog. His name is Buddy. He was born on Feb 22nd. I will be receiving him from the breeder in 8 weeks. The breeder said I could start training him as soon as I get him, however make the training fun, and not to do "too much" training since my little Buddy is just a puppy.
Here are some questions I'm not 100% sure of:
1.) Can I play "tug-a-war" with him?
2.) As I train my little Buddy, I will make high pitch sounds like "good boy" when he does something I like or when he follows a command and I will give him a treat--- I will train with "positive reenforcement". However, if he makes a mistake and doesn't do something right, do I just ignore that and start over, or should I make a high pitch sound with my voice like "Ah"?
3.) When I train him, can I keep him on a leash, or is it best I keep him off the leash?
4.) Is this proper way to train him to sit: Once I have his full attention, I will hold a treat and slowly lift above his head in a position that will naturally force him to sit. Once he actually sits, do I say "sit"? The word I will use every time I want him to sit will be "sit". So when do I say the word? As he sits? Or the moment he sits?
5.) How do you teach the dog to "come"?
In question #2, I meant to say "should I make a low pitch sound like "ah" "
