Question for Beetlejuice fans: Why did the character scream?

Those of you who have never seen the movie "Beetlejuice" will probably not know how to answer. The question is: In the latter part of the movie when Lydia had freed Beetlejuice in order to rescue Adam and Barbera, Otho tried to run away. Beetlejuice then pretended to shoot him with his fingers, and Otho's clothes ripped off revealing a light blue suit. Otho then screamed and exited. I've watched that part a million times, but I can't figure it out. Why did he scream, and what was with the blue suit???
 
His sexuallity is questionable and hes into modern trends. The blue suit was a throwback to 70's fashion (blue leisure suit). He was screamed cause he was appalled by what he had to wear.
