question on a 94 Lexus GS300?

I was just wondering what the easiest way was to replace the pinion seal in the rear end was on a 94 GS300.. Does the pinion have to be pulld or can you just pull the hud on the input shaft off the rear end and be good and advice will be greatly appreciated
