OK, I'm 27 years old.. I been going in and out of jobs (unstable) the economy is bad and luck for me is bad now.. I been in college and graduated. So far I haven't had luck and getting anxious. I live with my parents right now but they acknowledge that its fairly bad right now and willing to let me stay since I did school and get my butt looking for a job. I have but, its getting no where. At night i think about joining the national guard in hope to not only better myself but, serve and have an interesting time there. That's what I hope for. But, obviously I have these questions:
1. I don't really have experience in anything besides crappy entry level job as a civilian. Is that a problem?
2. I'm in debt, will joining the NG help pay it? I'm only $1,000 in debt so no, its not 50G or something out there. However, still can't pay up the rest since I have no job. Parents pockets are tight as well.. so I'll probably have my credit ruined. Will this affect me in the NG or will it be only my personal problem?
3. How long is the contract in general? Is it 2 years of active duty?
4. People there live on campus right? After a while do you get your own place or are you stuck in bunkers with other soldiers?
5. What about time off to travel maybe to visit family etc? When does that happen?
6. I heard about serving in the national guard part time on their ads. Wasn't too sure..what does that mean? You work less hours and I get to go home? How does it work.. part time serving/ learning then I get to go to school if I chose to (college /university)?
7. What about driving cars.. are these paid for me or borrowed government cars?
8. I think I do fairly good in fitness (not an expert) but I been working out. I'm 6'1" 240 lbs.. I have around 15-20% body fat. Never done drugs.. but my cardio sucks.. sit ups are worse. Does that mean I'll get a low end career there? I thought about maybe doing maintenance repair/ mechanic. That interests me since I like working on my hands. That or networking.
I quote:
"The Guard pays well. But for civilians and Soldiers with skills and experience, we pay even better, with incentives up to thousands of extra dollars. Serve full-time now in certain jobs, and qualify for big cash."
