First off, what do Canadians think of the Region Codes assigned to DVD Players and DVDs?

Isn't a bit absurd that mp3s can be listened to all across the world, but DVDs from European countries (Region 2), DVDs from Mexico (Region 3), cannot play on most Canadian players unless you have All Regions DVD machine or know how to unlock their machine?

So basically the principal here is that YOU in Canada cannot watch a European film not released in North America, USING a DVD Machine fully designed and CAPABLE of giving you clear and vibrant coverage of that film, ALL because the machine's manufacturer used a passcode using your very own machine to restrict the region code to only films that are released in USA and Canada.

What do Canadians think of the region code system for DVDs?
isotope, you can watch many DVDs from foreign countries if

1) Your DVD player is set for Region 0 or ALL REGIONS (but those cost more). A laptop computer's DVD system can change region codes but you only can change it 5 times and then it locks in.

2) MANY foreign films have DVD versions designed for Region 1. A large selection of top foreign films have Region 1 coding for Canadian and American viewers. The Coding is not a barrier on what movie countries you can watch, it's which regions the studio producer WANTS to have viewers from. My guess is you watched Region 1 versions of the foreign films you bought.
OR it's very likely you bought Region 0 films, which can be viewed on any player Region 1 thru 6.

This is total nonsense, I have never heard of that, and I watch DVDs from all over the world that I have bought while traveling overseas. I have movies from France, Russia, China, Japan, Germany, etc.

Just noticed, (duh) its the wannabe Cdn but just cant get it quite right poster
