FACT: I am talking image wise people not the lyrical or flow concepts. I'm talking about the image.
Question: Why do people say Lil Wayne is killing/changing hip-hop because he has like a rock image, He's not the first to mix rock and rap it was actually Run DMC. People talk about the skinny jeans, piercings, the guitar, and the sound is killing hip-hop when that's what Run DMC (The greatest people to ever be in hip-hop) was known for doing minus the piercings but Run DMC wore them tight leather clothes, LOL. I just see Wayne as paying homage for something that's been done & helped him & all the other rappers become who he was in this industry. I am in no trying to apply Lil Wayne is/will ever as good as Run DMC. No one will be as good as Run DMC not even Pac, Big, Snoop, Jay, Diddy can compare to Run DMC, They set the bar for all rappers and helped cross hip-hop over to mainstream success. I just don't understand why we say Lil Wayne is killing hip-hop over something that's been done a long time ago and helped rappers like Jay, Pac, Big even get known. I didn't say Wayne created it either, I'm just saying why are we setting this stereotype that hip-hop is about being "Gangsta", wearing Baggy Clothes & Timbs. When it truly didn't start like that until Eazy E, "Godfather of Gangsta Rap" & even then NWA had on that tight leather clothing in the Straight Outta Compton video.
PS. I don't care how much you hate Lil Wayne.
I'm not comparing Wayne to Run DMC or all the other rappers.
I don't care how much you think he sucks or he's ugly.
I don't care about all of that, I asked "Why is it killing hip-hop when Wayne is basically paying homage and doing what Run DMC has already done & are legends for it".
