...dysfunctional families? Like "Speak."
I'm looking at titles here, http://www.librarything.com/tag/dysfunctional+family
Some of them look good.
I'm also OK with non-fiction, you know, like memoirs and textbooks.
And, I'm not exactly looking into like abuse or incest or anything too over-the-top...
Just a quaint middle class family that's normal externally, but has issues based off of society: e.g., both parents work and kids are neglected. Something "normally" dysfunctional. (if anything in that context can be "normal"...)
Or Mom and Dad are trying to divorce because they decide they're not meant for each other...
Stuff that can happen...
Depression... Rape... Child with Down Syndrome... Divorce... Financial issues... Death of a family member....
Something with a higher likelihood than the really, really horrible cases... Like the aforementioned abuse, incest, and even drugs and such and such.
But I'm willing experience a wide boundary of books, so, it doesn't necessarily have to fit into what I described.
So, plainly written, just: Contemporary (Something that is quite modern)
American: (Just plain American. I'm not looking for dysfunction occurring from culture clash.)
Fiction or Memoir, preferably fiction
And, topic is dysfunctional families.
And please something with solid, three-dimensional characters.
I'd appreciate it if the writing technique with a bit of... subtle sensibilities? But then again, I love straightforward, blunt ones.
Just something that doesn't drone on and on, please.
Thank you.
