Reformatting my iPod classic?

Okay, so I just bought an iPod classic off a friend. He had a PC so it's formatted to his computer so when I plug it into my mac my computer doesn't recognize it. So I guess what I have to do is restore it. But I can't do that until my itunes recognizes it. Does anyone know of a way I can format it to my mac from my mac?
