Trees are common in primtive religions as links between heaven and earth. read "The Sacred and the Profane" by Eliade.
 
The tree of knowledge is something that as a non christian rasied as a christian (lol) i find hard to believe. They lived in a time when survival was key. So what lead to the next step. Marijuana anybody? Its all natural, any ideas.
