I remember some of the plot but nothing else.
Two sisters, one is blond and had always been lovely, her sister, Katherine was a plain brown headed child but grew up to be a pretty woman. Two brothers, who lived on the next bit of property had gone away to some war, I think maybe the Mexican war? They come back after years of being away and the eldest goes after the blond sister while Katherine pines for him. The younger brother cares for Katherine a great deal but she's not into him that way. I seem to remember a bit where Katherine comes across her sister and the older brother in a compromising position, freaks out and runs off, getting struck by lightening or something. The older brother blames himself and at the end chapter, there is a phrase like " And he pounded his fist into the fence post with enough force to break his hand" Somewhere down the line, the brothers head out west to start a lumber company and in a drunken stupor the older brother writes to Katherine, thinking he's writing to her sister to send for her to come. When Katherine arrives, he realizes his mistake. The rest is foggy, they get married somewhere and shortly after she realizes he meant for her sister to come instead. She runs off, gets hurt by a bear I think. After that, its a blank. Can anyone help me out? The cover is pink and had a heart on it I think. Please someone help me, its driving me up the wall trying to remember.
