Remember in an video interview when Roger Mayweather said that speed don't mean shyt unless you got the skills & Floyd has the skills. He went on to add that Manny doesn't have the skills, and throws a bunch of wild shyt.
yeah, i do remember that. i guess throwing 1,000 punches a fight does not mean that much either. lot's of myth's were exploded on saturday night. there were some fans of manny on this very board who insisted floyd would wither under manny's onslaught of punches. they did not care about the shoulder roll, floyd's laser-like right hand leads, the way he moves his head. i always felt like it was an insult to boxing that those great defensive skills were not appreciated. whatever the case, you can tell from roach's statements that they are back to the drawing board as far as dealing with counter punchers. in a weird way, it's almost like manny has to show he can get by JMM before they can even sell a mayweather-pacquiao fight. that's how bad saturday was. and here's another thing. i actually had the nerve to say manny's punching power was overrated because people were looking at the ricky hatton fight way, way too much. much was made of margarito's eye socket damage, but that's from an accumulation of blows, NOT one punch knockout power! manny has a long string of decision wins now. on this very board, i practically begged manny to not listen to arum and to fight a SLICK, COUNTER PUNCHING BOXER, hunt him down, and destroy him (no, mosley did not count) and i was called a fool by many of manny's fans. after saturday, i don't feel that much like an idiot.
I don't necessarily think this could apply to Pacquiao's last fight against Marquez because while watching the fight, Pacquiao, even though he had the edge in speed, didn't commit to too many combinations like we're used to seeing. While watching the fight, when Manny had Marquez against the ropes or by the corners, he would hesitate in throwing his combinations and wouldn't cut off the ring like he usually did in the past. And if we were watching Pacquiao-Marquez 1 or 2, then Pacquiao's performances, especially the 1st fight, kind of debunks Roger Mayweather's theory because 1) JMM was ranked higher both times than Pacquiao in the first two fights, which would allude one to believe that JMM had a higher skill set than Pacquiao and 2) in both fights Pacquiao exhibited not only speed but also a high skill set as he was able to inflict the most pain JMM had ever experienced in his pro career. So Roger Mayweather's assumption that Pacquiao has speed and no skill is BS, because if that was true, then what does that say about JMM?
