Okay, so basically, I'm wanting to know whether it's easy to do and if it's a good idea. I've been wanting to root my phone for awhile, but I'm kinda scared to because I heard if you do it wrong, it will seriously mess up your phone. I've watched a couple YouTube videos about it and it seems simple, but I still don't wanna attempt until I get people's opinions on whether I should or not. Thanks :)

I rooted my Droid a while ago. Of all the cool things you can do after rooting, there are only two that turned out to be useful for me. First, there's an ad blocker (but it makes a few games not work), and second, free mobile hotspot (well free in the sense you don't pay Verizon extra, but it still uses up your data).

A lot of people think that rooting will also let you get a lot of free apps that otherwise wouldn't be free, or that it's needed to customize your phone. Neither one are correct. Paid apps still cost money, and you can customize your phone without having to root (I think people got this latter misconception from iPhones, where you *do* have to jailbreak to do any significant themes, etc.)
