runs fine at idle but bogs down on acceleration but will eventually pick up

speed to a point of steady foot? if you accelerate more it bogs down then again it picks up speed
 
you might try changing the gas filter. i probably could tell you more but you did,nt say what car you have.
 
It could be a fuel feed problem or incorrect ignition timing.

What is the Year/Make/Model of your car?
 
Gas or diesel? sounds like a clogged fuel filter. Are there any other problems, if the battery is weak the fuel pump won't be getting enough juice to keep up with demand
