the salvation by grace and faith in christ is important but to obey his commands is also important not just salvation by faith alone
1 Peter 1:17: "Now if you invoke as Father him who judges impartially according to each one's works, conduct yourselves with reverence during the time of your sojourning
For one, the robber hanging next to Jesus was saved without baptism, nor any of the other preconditions. He merely but truly believed.
Secondly this verse refutes the whole page:
Romans 10:9
That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
(It is not an isolated verse, the theme and spirit of this verse gets repeated throughout the New Testament)
The implication of the page you referring to is that salvation is ultimately earned. It diminishes the value of the cross, which is the hallmark of a sect.
The Bible does say that true faith will be expressed in good works.
i fully support the first answer. that right there is proof that salvation is by faith alone.
if we have to love, be baptized, and essentially keep all the commandments faithfully then what on earth did Jesus die for? He became our sin...and sin is the only thing that keeps us from God.
@lover of Jesus: please don't put words in my mouth. works are a result of faith...not a requirement. of course if one trusts Christ as savior then good works will naturally happen. after all, they're a "fruit" right?
i'm just saying by no means are works or baptism a requirement for an eternity with Christ. are we in the wrong if we don't follow through with believers baptism? yes. are we wrong if we chose not to produce good works? yes. are we in the wrong if we lie? yes. but none will keep a believer from salvation.
look at the helenistic Jews of Hebrews. they blatantly ignored the law of grace and went back to sacrificing.
i think you can draw implications from that web site that are saying "salvation is by faith AND..." that's dangerous. when it comes to the scriptures one must not play the devil's advocate. you systematically draw conclusions that are consistent with doctrinal issues. to say, "well, none of these verses say salvation is ONLY by faith" is in essence saying salvation is by faith AND..."
"Faith only really means belief only, and that is a FALSE DOCTRINE!" ...if it's not by faith alone then it involves works too...and THAT is a false doctrine.
I dont see any flaws in the site. They are combatting the notion that all you need to do is simply believe and youre saved. They are also trying to explain that faith means more than simply believing as in James, that its accompanied by works.
To the one guy: we are under Christ's law and have to obey him. Jesus said take up your cross and follow him. Jesus said leave your life of sin. Jesus said get baptized. The whole point of Jesus coming was not to give us a NEW rulebook and new law, but to express and accent the universal rules weve had all along and to make himself the sacrifice, and also the head of our church, and to give us grace!
To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law. -1 Cor 9:21
Are we under Christ's law? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! Faith only really means belief only, and that is a FALSE DOCTRINE!
