I think it messed up the shifter... Does anyone know how far the 2 screws need to be out to work right? I can't seem to find the proper position.

Go to http://thecheapbikeshop.com and click on the Repairs link, then click on the link to adjust your rear derailleur. Fair warning... you may not get it right anyway and you'll probably end up at a bike shop.
