Do you disapprove of discussing aspects of the two world wars simply because there are wars going on now?

As with any discussion, you've always got the option of not joining in if it doesn't interest you.

It's not that it doesn't interest me, but this conversation is drifting pretty close to nastiness - plus it's miles off topic (and that's coming from me; an expert in driving threads off-topic)

I wasn't aware of any nastiness, apart from the racist song lyrics which Adouglasmhor posted, but I think he did it to illustrate a point, rather than to cause offence. Yes, I found them offensive, but I didn't feel that he was trying to be offensive to me (or anyone else) if you see what I mean

And I think the original point of the thread has probably been discussed to exhaustion by now, so if the thread drifts off into other areas then that is quite a natural phenomenon - certainly on MAP! But of course if anyone has anything to add to the original topic then there is nothing to stop them from dragging the thread kicking and screaming back to where it started.

To bring us back to the OP, sentencing, here is an interesting sentence a UK judge handed out recently. Very creative! In my own state of South Dakota, 2lbs. is a felony and can land you in up to 10yrs in jail and up to $20,000 fine! Wow. big difference!

Actually quite like that. Good point that it makes him research the crime a bit more and so he gets exposed to ideas that could change his mind. Just telling someone what they did is wrong doesn't do anything to change their mind, it just makes you dig your heels in more.

Course it could also mean that the judge is subtly making a point that dealing pot isn't worth a prison sentence. Be nice if thats the case.
