It is a fact that some of the fundamental tactics of brainwashing and mind control include:
Highly ritualized repetitious activities
Strict standards of grooming and dress
Strict gender roles and separation
Strong emphasis on unquestioning obedience
Denial of exposure to outside ideas and punishment for questioning
Isolation from family and friends
My question(s) to Muslims:
1) Can you acknowledge that at least on the surface, many Islamic practices (with the exception of the last one) seem to mirror these techniques?
2) Can you understand how to an outside observer, such activities may be off-putting and concerning?
3) Can you explain how the practices of Islam do not equate to the techniques listed above?
