It was just a character and I expect most people don't even have what Carol said in context. The Golliwog was a character and the toy dolls usually had spiky hair and a certain tennis player had his hair all spiky so she said he looked like that. I don't see how it's any more inoffensive than saying other people look like childhood characters. The foul fat bird in Big Brother was called the princess in Shrek. It seems as if the PC people are the only ones who's saying all black people are Golliwogs. I can imagine them all foaming at the mouth and not thinking straight as soon as the word Golliwog is used.

Can't say I care much about people who have jobs just because of who their parents are ( I used the umbrella term Peaches Geldofs for them) but this all seems to be getting out of control. Most people don't think of Golliwogs as racist as it's just a doll they has as a child and they liked them. Children don't usually think in racist ways. I didn't associate my Golliwog doll as meaning it's all black people, although I think the name should be changed to just Golly.
Ha Ha helen. Mine was knitted. I don't know what happened to it though. Maybe the PC police came in and stole it.
