I have never owned or ridden a motorcylce before and I just signed up to get my motorcycle license and see if I like it. I really want a Sportster 883L or a Nightster. Is this a good bike to start on or should I try something with a little less power? Tell me I don't really know much about bikes. I like the aesthetics of the Sportster. I DO NOT want a crotch rocket

883 is a good learner bike. my mom has a speical edition 91 883 and its fairly light. we have had it since 2000 and my mom doesnt want a new one she loves it. which the pearl white paint is suppose to be rare. if your going to be riding much i would prob look at the 1200 series. at first it might seem big but once you get used to riding you will want something bigger

too much power is not a problem...
1 can your feet reach the ground
2 see if you can ride some other bikes before buying...like HD but really love V twin yamahas....smoother,,faster...handle better....more dependable...better brakes,,,,

is what i have and ive enjoy mine been on it for 9 yrs now over 75,000 miles beed across country four times easy coast west coast.. you ride what you like so after you have sat on one or two you should know what you want or if it feels right

Your mindset is 100% wrong. You say you're buying a bike for the looks, therefore making you a poser-wannabe.

You buy the bike to have fun on it.

Too much power? No such thing. The motorcycle is just a tool, made out of metal just like a socket wrench or screwdriver. It's you who need to be responsible and careful on it. It doesn't matter how large the diameter of some cylinders are inside the engine if you can't figure out how to make a proper turn or ride safely.

Sportsters are top heavy. That means they are "wobbly" at low speeds. Shop around, don't become fully inveloped in a Harley marketing scheme until you have tried other bikes, therefore you know what both sides have to offer.

It's called a sportbike by the way. Crotch rocket is offensive and slang. And how do you know you DO NOT want one? You just said you dont really know much about bikes.

No. For your first bike get something used and cheap. You are gonna put some dings in it your first year. get some experience on it and put away a few bucks, then get your Sportster.

the Sportster 883 is a good entry level H-D ,the newer models starting in 07 now has electronic fuel injection rather then a carb I currently have the 07 883L and haven't had any problems with mine, there is a lot of aftermarket parts available for the Sportsters so you can customize it the way you like
