Ive been looking for a truck for some time now, I need it to pull my 20 foot bass boat and it will also be my daily driver. I can get a fully loaded 2004 Nissan Titan with 20000 miles for around $12000. My question is: is this a good decision to buy a big gas hog, or should I look at a smaller pickup such as a Tacoma which will be similarly priced but have no where near the options.
thanks
Update: I love Toyotas, but they are WAYYY over priced for what you get. I am a big guy, and would like the interior room of a full sized. And if you would look on the f-150 and silverado forums, you will see they have their share of problems, just as many if not more than the Titan.

You'll have to make the decision about the gas mileage yourself since you'll have to budget accordingly.

My concern with the Titan is the reliability. It has had a number of problems since it's inception. Do a Yahoo search on the Nissan Titan. I would look for a used Tundra or T100 (not the current model). It will be more reliable and able to pull your boat with no problem.

The reliability of the Titan by consumer is "worst than average". If I'm correct, it will be discontinued too. It's also has a very bad fuel consumption. Yes, most american trucks have reliability issues. I would choose Ford over Chevy and Dodge would be completely out of question. Yes, Toyota's are much more expensive used, it's either going to be older or will have more mileage on it. They are dependable though. Buying used is a bit risky no matter what you getting, you don't know who owned it and how it was cared for. I would stick with Toyota if it's possible. If not, get extra warranty from the manufacturer. Should cost about $700. Toyota, Ford, Nissan you can buy until the vehicle is under manufacturer warranty. I did that when I got a used Toyota, I bough Toyota extra care a month before the truck's basic warranty expired. Same with a Ford car we owned. And we used the warranty a lot with the Ford, starting with a new transmission. Should compare the consumption of the Titan vs Tacoma. That's also a couple of bucks there too.
