Should I call the manager of the restaurant to complain about this?

I went to a downtown restaurant (part of a well-known chain) for dinner by myself. I was at the front of the line and there were a bunch of people waiting behind me. The "hostess" came up to me and first she said "is it the two of you" pointing to the guy behind me. I said no, I'm by myself and I need a table for one. Then she said "is the bar ok?" I said I prefer to eat at a table. Then in a loud sarcastic voice (looking at the other people line) she said "I guess some people for whatever reason prefer a table over the bar".

I was really shocked but did still eat there anyway but I'm thinking of phoning up the manager (or even the head office of the chain) to complain. I think her behaviour was outrageous. At least, I should get a free dinner or something out of this. That woman shouldn't be allowed out of her cage to deal with members of the public.
 
I agree with you, she had no right to say that or treat you like that. by all means make sure you call about this
 
It's not about getting a free meal, it's about letting the management know that they have rude employees that work there. It should not matter if you are by yourself or in a group of 10. I would call back and in a calm and collective voice explain yourself and let them know that you don't appreciate it.
Money is money if it is 1 person or a large group. One angry customer passes on a bad experience to MANY MANY more potential customers which might choose to not go patronize that particular restaurant anymore. Hope this helps.
 
Yes, I believe you should call and complain, I worked in a restaurant for 3yrs, and I know that kind of behavior would not be tolerated at my work, and most restaurants have a universal motto, customers are always right, and the fact of the matter is you are paying to eat there they should appreciate your business.
