Should I get a Blu ray player, if yes should I get an HDTV?

I was thinking about getting a Blu ray player.. But, I'm still having second thoughts. DVDs are still selling, although eventually they will stop..

Also, would a blu ray player work on a regular TV? I'm planning on getting an HDTV when I move..
