Should I send my NDS back to Nintendo?

The entire left side of the touchscreen isn't working, and I already tried cleaning it, with a toothbrush and everything. The warranty is over because it's around 4 years old. Would it cost too much to simply send it back and have it repaired instead of just buying a new used DS for $80?

I say go the DiY route and buy a replacement touch sensitive overlay. The part itself will run you about 5 bucks before shipping most places, and you'll want a tri-wing screwdriver and a small philips head screwdriver (I use a jewlers screwdriver for that) The repair itself will take about ten minutes, and is very easy to do and fairly idiot-proof. You basically have to take the battery out, and unscrew about 7 tri-wing screws to get the case off, then you disconnect the data ribbons, unscrew the motherboard, and lift it up, then take the touchscreen off, put the new one on, reconnect the data cables, and reassemble it.

If you decide to do this, and your DS starts up and then shuts off instantly, it means the data cables connections are loose, and you need to push them in more, or you damaged them somehow. Don't touch the gold connectors, and don't crimp them and you'll be fine. All this may sound daunting, but once you actually do it you'll fly through it in no time.

My sisters DS has broken recently. My advice would be to buy a new one, and then sell the old one on ebay under faulty. I looked on ebay the other day and I couldn't believe how much people were paying for faulty DSs. They buy them for spare parts or to attempt to fix them themselves, like a hobby. I have advised my sister to do the same but my dad is convinced he can fix her DS (he's a whizz at that kind of thing)

so sell your faulty one on ebay, stating what is wrong with it, then buy a new one. Look up faulty DS on ebay.

Buy it! Old DS's that have this chance of growing dull will just grow dull again and again, wasting you money sending it back and forth. The poor thing probably wants to die. It's adding insult to injury. I'd keep that DS though so you can have an option of making a video where you play it too much and your friends make an intervention and destroy the thing, but it's just an old one! How comical! Anyways, if you play games that interact you may want to keep the thing just for shits and giggles. So, in general, buy a new one, keep the old!
