Skipping 98 Ford Ranger?

My brother has a 98 Ford Ranger 3.0l V6. He has been having a problem lately with starting the vehicle and it idles really low then chokes down. After about two or three minutes it stops doing this and returns to normal Idle. It has backfired a time or two. He has changed the oil, spark plugs and wires, changed the coil packs and still it does this. Anyone know whats going on?
 
CHECK ENGINE LITE ON? FREE SCAN MOST AUTO PARTS STORES
throw in a can of fuel injector cleaner just for fun
