slow torrent speeds? is it my ISP's fault?

Hello.
I have mediacom for an internet/phone service provider. I am based in the northern IL area.
I am just wondering if it is mediacom's fault that I have recently been getting extremely poor torrent speeds. I have the wrt330N gaming router and the highest bandwidth per month allowed but recently, my torrent speeds have suffered tremendously. for the past 2 weeks, i have been getting around 35k download speeds max even though my router ports are open, etc
if anyone has a possible solution, I would really apreciate the help

Your download speed depends on what kind of internet you have.

If you have high speed, than everything should be good.

it can also depend on your ISP. Some of them don't provide their customers with good bandwidth, etc. I have never heard of Mediacom before.

If its ONLY your torrents that are slowing down, then I doubt that it is your ISP's fault. If everything else seems to be running slow, then yes it is you ISP's fault.

Some ISPs monitor your port activity in a range below 10000 for P2P activity and then shape your speed. Set your port to 60000 + and you should be good. Also helps to use encryption.
If you have uTorrent you go into preference and connection and set your incoming port to 65000 or something like that. In the bittorrent section enable protocol encryption. Then your ISP won't know what you are downloading and even if they did they wont be looking at a port set at 65000.
