Khan has blazing fast hands, but little power. All of his KO's are by way of TKO, the result of his blazing speed overwhelming his opponents. He has bettered his defense since joining Freddie Roach, and seemingly would be the favorite save for one thing - his bad chin. Maidana is arguably the hardest hitter at 140 pounds, and all it would take for Khan to be flattened is just one right hand from Maidana to end the fight. If Khan can fight on the outside, he will win a wide UD. If he slips up just once, Maidana will knock him out.
Great matchup! Before I would think that Khan would lay flat against the hardest hitter in 140, but now I do think Khan will outbox and frustrate the power puncher. I disagree with Jose Martinez's assertion that Khan has little power. Khan is actually a power puncher himself, though not as much as Maidana. Khan doesn't have blunt KO power, but he has piercing power that disrupts and softens his opponents. An example of a boxer overwhelming others through speed with no power is Z Gorres. He was able to get a draw against Darchinyan and gave Montiel all he could handle using this speed. Khan has both speed and power.
**edit**
Whether Khan wins by an impressive manner or he gets KTFO early, my respect for him has skyrocketed for just taking this fight. I thought he would be avoiding Maidana like a plague.
I have Amir Khan to win by decision. While both guys are not afraid to fight stand up toe to toe brawling, Amir Khan has become somewhat of a boxer-puncher where he tries to use his reach and uses his jabs effectively, as vivid in his last bout against Paulie Malignaggi. Marcos Maidana is an upcoming boxer known more for his defeat of a highly favored Victor Ortiz. Since then, he has won 4 straight fights with 3 of them coming by KO!
Khan looked spectacular against Kotelnik, the same boxer who defeated Maidana. Khan won convincingly and is nowhere near close to the same Khan who was KOd by Prescott. I do believe Khan has the edge in speed while their power maybe even. But Khan has the better IQ especially with Roach in his side. He has the better strategical style and the superior talent to Maidana. Amir Khan is the no.2 ranked 140 poundet today in TIng Magazine just behind Timothy Bradley. Amir Khan wins by decision.
