Sony Ericsson w880i "inactive sim"?

Today my phone just randomly said inactive sim. I'm not sure whats causing this and what to do. It has said it before recently but i turned it off and then on and it was fine but this time its not changing. Any ideas? Ive had the sim card for about a year and 5 months if that helps.
Anybody know the service provider number for vodafone? UK.
 
Try removing the sim card, then giving it a quick wipe then pop it back in. Sometimes just a slight speck of dust can prevent the connection.
Have you tried another sim card in the phone? If that works, then it is likely to be your sim card. If not, then it may be the phone itself. If you need a replacement sim you can always pop into your local store to pick up a blank call and give vodafone a call to activate it.

try removing the sim card!
if this fails contact your service provider they can send you a new sim card but tell them you would like to keep your old number.
