Sony Vaio W's ALT+F10 doesn't work, why?

I remember being able to use it once to restore my netbook's settings to factory default. I just tried again and it doesn't work. As in, the screen will freeze on a black screen with nothing else on it.

Does anybody know of a way around this issue? Thanks.
