On my computer, the sound will stop working and the computer will suddenly freeze for a few seconds. After the sound has stopped working, the computer will freeze for a few seconds every time a sound would usually play (eg. windows popups and alerts). The only way to get the sound working again is to reboot the computer. The amount of time it takes for the sound to stop working after rebooting is variable and sometimes it'll remain working for the entire session. The problem seems to be occurring when the load on the processor is fairly high, but not extremely high. This problem has started out-of-the-blue after months of having a working computer without this problem.
