Well, the general sentiment here seems to be "brothers are d bags". Well, I'm not going to lie, that is true in a lot of cases. However, that's just not true everywhere. I'm sure if you go to penn st, fsu, or other party schools like those, that is probably generally true. It is possible for a brotherhood to be down to earth. Not all brotherhoods are large groups of assholes. I'm pledging right now at Sigma Chi, and I'm going into initiation week now. I'm not pledging because I want to be accepted, or to make myself look cooler. I'm pledging because I believe in the qualities of brotherhood. All of the brothers in my chapter are good people, and I've had a really good time just being a part of that and hanging out at the house. It's all about the brotherhood. And the girls are a perk too.
In short, there are many different kinds of brotherhoods. Some are genuine, and some are assholes. But don't ignorantly bash fraternities and greek life in general based on a few douchebag chapters.
To get back to the OP's question. I can't tell you specifically what pledging has consisted of, but for me, everything has been fun. I've been having the time of my life during pledging. Sadly, that is unusual for most fraternities. Most places do at least a couple things during pledging that would be considered hazing. There are some fraternities on my campus that are known to do elephant walks, and a couple others that are known to be fairly harsh and abusive to their pledges. They will remain anonymous.
The purpose of pledging is to teach the values of the fraternity, instill brotherhood, and to have fun. Unfortunately, a lot of fraternities don't stick to those guidelines.
And BTW, please refrain from the use of the word "frat". It has negative connotations that give fraternities a very bad image. Just type out the full word.
well my friend who goes to texas tech got really drunk during innitiation and got woken up by some randomn guy but it turns out he was in a totally different dorm room in some randomn guys bed
I don't get frats...I've heard of some horrible hazing stories. In those cases, that just screams a lack of social acceptance. I might join one if the hazing was minimal, but why?
They are called Fraternities, not "frats" first off. And second off, if a fraternity man and a regular kid applied for the same job down the road, the person in the fraternity would get it hands down. You have no idea how much leadership and shit you gain from being in a fraternity. Those ppl who say they are gay and probobly the kids who couldn't get bids. You will never have any idea what its like to have 40 other guys who would drop ANYTHING to help you.
Why do people hate on fraternities so much? Partly the reason they haze is to know that you will be loyal to the frat and if you go through a lot you will feel a greater respect for being there.
sounds like you read the promotion card for your frat
fraternity and frat is the same thing dont try to make it sound cooler than it is by saying "fraternity"
ive personally watched 3 army guys go into a frat on a saturday night when all of the "brothers" are there and beat the mother fucking shit out of one of the "chairmen" or something of the frat to the point that he was hardly recognizable that night because the frat guy ruffied the army guys sister, so so much for brotherhood
but still ive been to some legit frats with a ton of hot girls and endless alcohol, so frats are cool some frats are gay, find a cool one
I don't give a shit if people like me, it's about getting to know some people. I dropped out when it got ******, so, all in all I got drunk several times, hooked up with several girls, and met some new people... I would consider it a decent experience and would do it again if I find a frat I like. Don't be such an ignorant **** because you walk around all day hating fraternities, try joining one instead of just bashing them, find out what its like from their/our perspective, and then you can pass judgment. Until then, **** off because you don't know what you're talking about.
