Starting my fitness program to lose weight?

im going to start a fitness program. if i dont record my calorie intake but are eating more fruit and vegetables and less fat and sodium will it work? im thinking of runnin 30 to 45 minutes every morning and in the afternoon do some basic workouts like push ups and crunches and do more as i progress.. what do you think?
