Stereo receiver or Amplifier?

I take it you have a mixer already. A good stereo amp
with 400 watts could cost $250 and speakers with that
power capability should run you $600 or more. Look
up Sound Reinforcement on the web. You are beyond
a receiver for home entertainment.

I need help on this one guys/girls. One of my hobbies is music (playing around with it and playing for others). Well my receiver that I have is on its last legs. I need to know as a amateur DJ what should I buy. I don't play in clubs (yet) but I like to have a club sound without taking money out from my rent. Could yall (southern accent) please give me a good answer on this one. I'm also looking for a second set of club speakers I'm willing to pay $300. for a receiver or amplifier and $600. on a set of speakers. Is that too low? If not give me at web site or guidelines. Thanks
