I have a 1998 outback legacy and the stupid factory didn't know what they were doing when they designed the way the water pump works.
They trusted the back smooth side of the timing belt to turn that pump, and I don't know why they didn't realize that rubber gets smooth and harder and looses it's grip.
I have to put a new timing belt on every 3 months, or the car over heats, the old belt slips, even a new tensioner doesn't help that much.
So what I am wondering is, did they ever get some brains and use the teeth to turn the pump on the newer subarus, or are they doing the same thing.
