I am looking for some books that are considered fantasy, sci-fi, urban fantasy, very much like a black fairy tale.

They are usually spelled "faery" and the faeries are usually pretty twisted.

Here are some I've read that I love
The Mortal Instruments Series (Cassandra Clare)
Ironside, Valiant, Tithe(Holly Black)
House of Night (Cast)
Vampire Academy (Mead)
Evermore
Wicked Lovely
Uglies, Pretties, Specials, Extras, Peeps (Scott Westerfeld)
The Mediator Series (Meg Cabot)
Harry Potter of course
Twilight (they were ok), The Host(spectacular)
Anything by Cornelia Funke
Eragon/Eldeest/Brisingr (LOVE them)
All Gail Carson Levine
Artemis Fowl
The Immortal Nicholas Flamel
City of Ember series (they were ok)
I've read Lord of the Rings, Dracula, all the classics as well. My reading appetite is just insatiable.

I'll have to look into the Gemma Doyle trilogy
And I've read JP and the Andromeda Strain, thanks

If you like highly technical sci-fi like I do, you could read Jurassic Park (a FANTASTIC book) or THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN (awe-inspiring)

There is a large assortment of series all under the umbrella of "DragonLance". Some of them are light fare, fun to read. But others are dark and gloomy. No vampires, however. There is another assortment, can't think of the title, that concerns a Dark Elf and his bloody trek through a dark world. I *think* the same people behind "DragonLance" have something to do with this Dark Elf series, but I could be wrong. I, myself, like the brighter, funnier stuff, so naturally, I don't have much to do with the Dark Elf and his world.

Dracula, that's only if you want to know what a real vampire is like.

How about the grandaddy of them all The Lord of the Rings? No fairies, but the elves rock!

If you liked The Mortal Instruments, you may like The Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray. They're by far my favorites.
