I recently moved back to the state of California from North Carolina. Yesterday, I went to the DMV to get a new driver license. When it was my turn, the customer service representative checked my information in the system and told me that I have a speeding ticket that I did not pay for in 2007. Therefore, she could not issue me a new license.
I can only recall one time in which I was pulled over. I'm not sure what year this was, but it was around 2007. Maybe earlier, though. The officer pulled me over, but did not give me a ticket. Rather, he told me I have to take traffic school. He was kind enough to give me my options and told me it would be best to complete it online. He also gave me an estimate on the price. Later that day, I finished traffic school online.
Ever since then, I've gotten one speeding ticket and that was this year. My question is, where did this "traffic violation" come from? Could it be an error in the system? Could the customer service representative at the DMV have accidentally pulled up a different name than mine? It's been four years and I've never received any kind of notice about it. I'm sure the California DMV would have found some way to find my home of address. Also, I'm sure the police would of had some type of warrant out for my arrest or something!
If this was the from the incident where I was pulled over but only had to take traffic school, what are my options? The DMV told me it was a "Failure To Appear". During that incident, I never received an actual traffic ticket where it tells you your appearance date. Was it the officer's fault? When I call the Superior Court, will it be just a "slap on the wrist" and a simple fine to pay?
Anyway, the DMV gave me a slip and here is what it says:
FTA/FTP INQUIRY
**DATE, DL/ID #, MY NAME, BIRTH DATE**
NOTICE OF OUTSTANDING FAILURES TO APPEAR (FTA) AND FAILURES TO PAY (FTP)
SACRAMENTO SUPERIOR COURT
**COURT ADDRESS AND PHONE**
TYPE: FTA
DOCKET#: 885320
VIOL DATE: 04/25/07
SECTIONS VIOLATED: 22350 VC
(I apologize for the category I've put this in. I'm not sure which category this would go under, but Yahoo assumed Business Finance > Taxes > India)
