Surround Sound and TV with Samsung HT-X50?

I am about to buy a Samsung HT-X50. Before I do, I want to make sure that I can get 5.1 with tv. I know I will be able to with DVDs. I currently have a GE Home Theater system and I cannot get surround sound with tv on it. It doesn't have that feature I guess. Does anyone know if I can get 5.1 with the Samsung HT-X50.

Philips HDTV
HD Time Warner Cable Box
