I currently drive a BMW 325 and am looking to upgrade to an SUV. I was pretty much sold on the BMW X3 but stumbled onto a Volvo XC90 while looking and must admit, LOVED IT! In my quest, I was shown the VW Touareg as well. I know next to nothing about the Volvo (other than they are very safe) and absolutely nothing about the Touareg. Any suggestions? Rants? Raves?

Take a look at the new Audi Q5, its the took vehicle in its class which includes the X3. The XC90 and Touareg are bigger than the X3 and would be comparable to an X5. Take a look at this article on caranddriver. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparisons/09q3/2009_audi_q5_vs._2009_bmw_x3_2010_m-b_glk350_2010_volvo_xc60_2010_lexus_rx350-comparison_tests another notable suv in this class to take a look at is the acura rdx or if you want bigger, the mdx is an excellent vehicle, definantly worth consideration.

Stick with the BMW. I am not a fan of Volvo and Touareg is way overpriced. If you can afford a Touareg, then get a BMW X5.

well, the x3 is very ugly and can't go off road. what you're left with is a 5 series wagon that costs more to fuel. so... why buy the x3? i think i'm correct in saying it offers less cargo room, and it's less fun to drive than the 5 series estate. plus, it weighs a lot more, so it costs more to fuel and drive.

the xc90 is a very practical vehicle if you have a family. in fact, jeremy clarkson says to this day that it is the best family vehicle out there. but, if you don't have a family, then you're putting up with the weight of an enormous volvo with 7 seats for nothing.

i'd avoid the original vw touareg as some of the suspension components and interior trim was cheaply made. but, the touareg 2 was a huge improvement. this car can actually go off-road, is stylish, and drives ok on the road too. i would buy this car in diesel form if i genuinely needed an suv.

but, if you don't need an suv, and don't need to carry around 7 people in the case of the volvo, then why bother with any of them? if you just need extra space, you'd be much more sensible, and probably happier, if you just upgraded to a 528xi estate, or even the 328xi estate. they'll drive better, cost less, get better fuel economy.

good luck!

Try A Treg!

Hi. Ive currently drive a Touareg and have to say it's the best all rounder.Ive had my Treg for 2 years now,not once let me down.loads space loads equipment as standard, fantastic to drive both on and off road (proper offroader, constant 4wheel drive not like BMW's) Great on the snow and ice.Solid and comfortable would highly recommend.Have to admit I've never drove the volvo, thought it a bit boring to look at but heard it was a good enough 4x4 both off an on the road.I did test drive the BMW X3 &X5,beside the fact there everywhere the drive although good in the bends was uncomfortable long term for my liking.Inside just looks like a 5 series, the x3 was even worse.I'm a big fan of Audi's,had an A6 and a A4.I think the Q5 looks better than the Q7 both just look like an A6 or a A8 inside and bit overpriced.Touareg is a cheaper option than the BM am Audi but doesn't feel cheap. TRY A TREG!
