Switching birth control methods mid-way?

I was given a sample Nuva Ring as well as a prescription for 11 months if I choose to continue it. My question is, if after I start using the ring and I notice some very unlivable side effects (which seems to frequently be the case with most prescriptions for me), would it be ill-advised to start taking my last prescribed packet of pills in place of the ring, or should I wait until my next period to start the pill again, and just use condoms until then?
 
You should wait until your next period to start the pill and use condoms in the meantime. Starting the pack in the middle of your normal cycle could upset your body and give you unpleasant side effects such as break through bleeding
