All you need to do is an equipment change. I would recommend activating it by calling the verizon number since you don't want to do it alone. The number should be on the box. There is a number for Pre-pay and a number for contract phones. The pre-pay service is 24 hours a day but contract is not. If you go to the store, they usually charge an activation fee of $15 but over the phone it is free. When you call, they will get the ESN number from you on the back of the phone and switch the phones on your account and then they will walk your through how to program your new phone (*228 opt 1). You will still have the same phone number. .

I have a phone that's been messed up due to water damage. I bought a new used phone however. I want to activate it and I found out you can do it online except...when I signed up, they couldn't send me the password cause my phone doesn't turn on. So can I just go into the Verizon store and they'll switch me no problem? Is there just a way for me to switch phones with no fee? (And I also keep my number right?) Thanks!
The phone is Verizon compatible. I'm just afraid to fully activate the phone, I have to call it with my old phone (I presume that's how it works), however my phone barely turns on.
When I call in to switch the phones for the ESN number, does it have to be my contract phone or can it be a landline or just another phone? That's the only thing I'm really worried abuot.

the only way for u to change the phone without a fee is if you already have the phone thats verizon compatible that you want to use as ur phone. and yes they will change the number for u and yes it will b ur number still. it should be free of charge but i am not sure my advice would b to use a land line or someone else phone to call verizons customer care line there very helpful

Just bring your old broken cell phone and also the new used Verizon phone to any local Verizon Wireless store and they will switch your cell phone number to the new used cell phone. There are no fees to make this switch. All they do is to get the ESN number on each cell phone behind the battery, which should take less than ten minutes to do. You will still have the same phone number.
