states? I have free nationwide calling but they told me that if I call out of the country it costs a lot of money. So if someone from Japan calls me will it cost me money to answer it / recieve it.
And also, will it show on my phonebill that I recieved a call overseas? I don't pay for my bill and I don't want the person that does pay for it to see who I am calling.
And no, I don't have the family plan.
Ok, I am still trying to become a citizen so please speak with small words lol

In incoming call from anywhere is an incoming call and only counts against your minutes according to the plan you are on. An incoming call is not a long distance call unless YOUR PHONE is outside the area where you have service.

So your Japanese friend can call you and it counts against your minutes only.

If you want to call your Japanese friend I suggest calling on a land line phone and using a prepaid international calling card. Or skip that and just send your friend an e-mail to call you.

I've got good news...and bad news. The good news is as long as the call is incoming to you then it doesn't matter where it came from it won't cost you anything, but the time will count against your alloted minutes. The only exception to this is if you are roaming out of the country, but that scenario can get complicated to explain and I'm thinking it won't pertain to your case.

The bad news is that I'm pretty sure that the phone number will show up on the monthly bill. There might be a way to request the number not to be shown on the bill, but that would have to be instigated an authorized by the person who is authorized to make billing and service changes on the account -- which in your case is most likely the one who is actually paying the bill. But this will sometimes vary depending on the mobile service provider, so you might want to call your customer service line and ask them. It can't hurt to ask. Good Luck!
