Taking Martial Arts in College?

Well i am no where in good shape and im joining a "Yoseikan Budo" Club at my college and i want to train my body and mind but mostly my body right now because i am hefty and need to get into peak condition. They have a rec center with all kinds of exercises and well im a stranger to the gym so can someone tell me what i can work on to improve myself. I can't lift a bunch of weight :( and im embarrassed that all the buff guys will laugh at me but i have to start somewhere so can i get some advice
