In the US you don't have a freedom NOT to have a religion.

In some states, I read that people cant hold public office if they dont believe in god?

And look at what the old George Bush said!

When asked by atheistic journalist Robert Sherman about the equal citizenship and patriotism of American atheists, Sherman reports that Bush answered "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.""

"In the United States, seven state constitutions officially include religious tests that would effectively prevent atheists from holding public office, and in some cases being a juror/witness"

hey daniel - your link is a fine example of why wikipedia IS NOT a credible source

You're kidding? A country that is essentially Christian in origin that can't utter the word "Christmas" in December??? You can keep freedom of religion then.

I'm English/Australian and we are heading the same way unfortunately.
